About Sara Banks

A little something about me.

Sara Banks - Anxiety Depression Stress Therapist in Naperville

At the heart of my therapeutic approach is the belief that therapy is a partnership. My role is to guide you toward the life you truly want to live, with a focus on uncovering and embracing your core values. When we align our actions with our values, we break free from the chains of self-doubt and negative thoughts, moving swiftly toward a life of self-respect and fulfillment.

I primarily practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), focusing on mindfulness, helping you accept your emotions, and transforming your relationship with unhelpful thoughts to live a value-driven life. When needed, I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for crisis management and interpersonal effectiveness. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to explore core beliefs—our fundamental views of ourselves, others, and the world—and to help shift perspectives through reframing, allowing you to see situations from different angles.

My professional journey has equipped me with a deep expertise in these therapeutic modalities. I began my career in a community mental health agency specializing in CBT, where I worked with clients facing mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders. My experience expanded as I served at a juvenile detention center and later as a clinical therapist at Linden Oaks Hospital in Naperville, where I specialized in DBT and ACT within their outpatient programs. In these roles, I helped clients navigate a wide range of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

More recently, I became certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful modality for treating trauma, anxiety, OCD, and painful memories. I have witnessed firsthand the profound and lasting relief my clients experience with EMDR, often in a short period.

Throughout my career, I have seen the most transformative results with ACT, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and EMDR. I am committed to offering you these life-altering therapies, guiding you toward becoming the person you truly are, rooted in what matters most to you.
